Inspired by the life cycle of land snails and the sinuous forms of their bodies, the Cochlea collection explores the transitory phases of human and animal existence through luminous glass and earthy, mineral stone. Ideas of balance and unity are embodied in three interlocking components — assembled without glue or fixings — evoking connection through impermanence.
Each vase consists of two stone elements and a single piece of borosilicate glass. The glass is hand-shaped without molds, requiring the stone components to be sculpted individually to ensure a perfect fit. This process makes every piece one of a kind.
Patented design. Each piece is part of a traceable series, identified by a unique serial code since 2020.
Coki Barbieri personally sculpts each piece using a unique stone composite developed in our laboratory, called Anthologia—derived from the Latin term for "collection of flowers." This composite is made by combining the finest fragments of Coki's favorite stones. Importantly, the compound contains no cement, glue, or industrially derived aggregates. The entire production process follows the ancient techniques of the Romans and the Middle Ages, including the 100% plant-based treatment applied to the external surface. The process involves eight types of handwork, including solar drying and manual tools, with minimal use of electrical tools to reduce preparation time.
All stone parts are sculpted by Coki Barbieri, and all glass parts are made by our glassblowers. Each component is custom-made to fit the other, ensuring a perfect fit. The clarity of the borosilicate glass is combined with the opacity of the stone, which always has unique details, traces, holes.
