CONCEPT
Light Through Mineral Matter
REGISTERED DESIGN
Rocklumìna is a mineral light system developed around 99.4% pure Italian rock salt enclosed within hand-formed borosilicate glass. The project investigates light as controlled diffusion through crystalline matter, where colour, density, and transparency interact within a stable structure.
Each glass body is shaped without moulds and assembled in the studio. Selected salt crystals are cleaned, calibrated, and inserted by hand. The mineral core remains adjustable and serviceable, allowing replacement or reconfiguration without altering the structure of the lamp.
Tested in long-term interior conditions since 2018.
Rocklumìna was selected for the Sate…Light exhibition curated by Marva Griffin during Salone del Mobile to celebrate twenty years of lighting projects presented at SaloneSatellite. The work is part of the permanent design collection of the SaloneSatellite Museum.

ASSEMBLY & CARE NOTES
Rocklumìna is designed for indoor environments under normal humidity and ventilation conditions. The mineral core is naturally hygroscopic and should not be exposed to high-moisture settings such as spas, bathrooms, or marine environments.
The upper opening allows the salt to be removed, replaced, or reconfigured. Cleaning and bulb replacement follow the same procedure.
Detailed care guidance can be downloaded below.
THE PROJECT
Rocklumìna Collection
Light object in Italian rock salt crystals and flame-worked glass
Rocklumìna originated from the study of mineral transparency and light diffusion through crystalline mass. It is the first lighting project developed using ethically extracted Italian rock salt processed through electrical mining systems.
The mineral core consists of 99.4% pure sodium chloride (NaCl). Each crystal is manually selected, cleaned, and graded before insertion. Colour variations are achieved through controlled application of natural pigments certified for children’s use, ensuring chromatic stability over time without synthetic additives.
The borosilicate glass body is entirely hand-formed without moulds. Electrical components include a standard E14 socket, 220–240V system, and a mechanical switch by an Italian manufacturer. The structure contains no external transformers or complex circuitry, allowing direct maintenance and long-term serviceability.
Rocklumìna is designed for indoor environments under normal humidity and ventilation conditions. Salt is naturally hygroscopic and should not be exposed to high-moisture environments such as spas, bathrooms, or marine settings. Under appropriate interior conditions, the mineral core remains stable.
The upper opening allows the mineral core to be emptied, replaced, or reconfigured. The lamp can be disassembled for cleaning or bulb replacement using the same simple procedure.
Tested in long-term interior conditions since 2018.
Rocklumìna received the Green Product Award in 2020 for introducing a new typology of mineral lighting rooted in Italian raw materials and controlled low-impact processing.
